making buildings more airtight and energy efficient have we overlooked the health
impact? Energy efficiency measures can lead to problems with dampness, mould
growth and greater exposure to emissions from dangerous materials. Specifiers and
contractors need to be aware of new options for getting ventilation right and should
consider using materials that contain fewer toxins and that can buffer moisture and
